Words To Describe Ralph From Lord Of The Flies

“Another thing, we can’t have everyone talking at the same time. We’ll need to chant ‘Hands up,’ just like in school…Then I’ll give them the conch…He may hold it while speaking…And he won’t be interrupted except by me.)”

This phrase reveals a lot about Ralph and his personality. It demonstrates that Ralph expects a great deal from all of the people trapped on the island, including demanding order and respect for others. It displays his democratic attitude in dealing with numerous issues or problems. This also implies that Ralph isn’t going to be pushed around; he wants to maintain tight control over everything that happens on the island.

“I’m chief,” said Ralph simply, “because you voted for me. I was chosen to be chief…And if I blow the conch and they don’t come, then we’ve had it. We shan’t keep the fire going. We’ll be like animals. We’ll never be rescued.” (pg. 32)

This short quotation basically states that Ralph is fully aware of his power and what could happen if he doesn’t use it wisely or to the best of his ability. Ralph knows that if he can’t get the other boys to come to him when he blows the conch, then they’re all as good as dead because without a fire, there’s no hope for rescue. This just goes to show how important leadership is to Ralph and how seriously he takes it.

“We want smoke on this side too,” said Ralph indignantly, “so that anybody looking along the beach will think there’s a ship out there.” (pg. 36)

This quote highlights Ralph’s determination to get rescued from the island. He doesn’t want anyone looking at the island and thinking that there isn’t any hope, he wants them to see the smoke from the fire and know that they’re alive and trying to signal for help. This shows that Ralph is selfless and is always looking out for the best interests of everyone on the island, not just himself.

“Which is better-to have rules and agree, or to hunt and kill?…If we have a signal fire going they’ll come to rescue us. Why should we bother about a beast? We’ve got enough to worry about-we can’t afford to go round looking for monsters!” (pg. 38)

This is another quote that Ralph says that really gets at the heart of his character. He is constantly trying to get the other boys to see reason and realize that they need to work together if they want any chance of being rescued. He doesn’t want them to waste their time and energy chasing after imaginary beasts, when they could be using that time and energy to build shelters or gather food. This just goes to show how level-headed and practical Ralph is, even in the face of danger and chaos.

“I’m not going off by myself. I tell you this-if anything happens while I’m away, I’ll come straight back! I swear it!” (pg. 40)

This quote shows Ralph’s bravery and his willingness to put himself in danger for the sake of others. He knows that he needs to go explore the island by himself, but he’s also aware of the dangers that come with doing so. He tells the other boys that if anything happens to him while he’s gone, he’ll come straight back, showing that he’s not afraid to face whatever dangers might be lurking on the island. This just goes to show how courageous Ralph is and how much he cares about the welfare of the other boys.

“We can all see things differently! Even adults! You know something? I bet adults are just as frightened as we are, only they’re better at hiding it.” (pg. 41)

This quote really gets at the heart of Ralph’s character. He is always trying to see the best in people, even when they might not deserve it. He believes that even adults are scared, they just know how to hide it better than children do. This shows that Ralph is a compassionate and empathetic person, who is always looking out for the best interests of others.

“Anyway, we’ve started now and we’ve got to finish! A ship! We might get rescued!” (pg. 47)

This is another quote that highlights Ralph’s determination to get rescued from the island. He knows that if they can build a big enough signal fire, then someone is bound to see it and come to their rescue. This shows that Ralph is always looking for the silver lining, even in the darkest of situations.

“Ralph wept for the end of innocence, the darkness of man’s heart, and the fall through the air of the true, wise friend called Piggy.” (pg. 181)

– This quotation from Lord of the Flies shows that Ralph is a complex character who is capable of deep thought and emotion. He is able to see the darkness in human nature, but also mourns the loss of innocence and purity.

“Ralph stood, one hand against a tree, and raised his face to grin at the boar. There was a sudden silent flurry of motion as the beast charged.” (pg. 138)

– This Lord of the Flies quotation shows Ralph’s brave side. He is not afraid to stand up to danger, even when he is outnumbered and outmatched.

“Ralph felt himself drenched in cold sweat, for there was something fearsome and abhorrent in this cavorting of painted savages round an upright stake.” (pg. 90)

– Ralph is able to see beyond the surface of things, and he knows that even though the boys may seem like they are just playing games, there is something more sinister going on.

“He was old enough, twelve years and a few months, to have lost the prominent tummy of childhood and not yet old enough for adolescence to have hit him.” (pg. 12)

– This Lord of the Flies quotation gives us a physical description of Ralph, but it also tells us that he is at an age where he is no longer a child, but not quite a teenager either.

“Ralph shut his eyes tight against the ludicrous sight of Piggy standing there with nothing on but his glasses and his knife and looking so ridiculously defenceless.” (pg. 107)

– Even though Ralph may not always get along with Piggy, he still cares about him and doesn’t want to see him get hurt.

“Ralph went on talking, reasonably and sensibly, about the fire and theAssembly and so on, but his words were only half heard against the continual interruption of Jack’s voice.” (pg. 36)

– Ralph is a good leader because he is able to keep calm and think logically, even when other people are losing their temper.
